Big Cities need Yoga

I recently moved to Bangkok from England as I am a school teacher and found myself a job at one of the international schools there. I’m from quite a small town in England and the local gym offers yoga classes three times per week. I try to go as much as possible and never go less than one time per week.

I fell in love with yoga after leaving University and getting my first job as a school teacher. The school offered a free yoga class to the staff once a week. I think companies offering staff healthy activities free of charge is a great way of contributing to improving the health of employees. Helps the staff, which helps the company as well.

So back to my move to Bangkok, wow what a shock. Such a big hectic city that has so many things do to and so many places to visit. Down side is the traffic, pollution and lack of parks. It’s not really the healthiest place to live but I’m here now and enjoying life just need to find ways to stay fit and healthy.

The nearest yoga studio is not that far away but getting there in the evening after I finish work is impossible as the traffic is so bad. I would need to wait until 8:30pm to 9pm to avoid the traffic but that’s too late for me. So I found a gym within walking distance who offer yoga once per week. I thought being a gym the class might not be that good and the Thai language might make it difficult. To my pleasant surprise the class was great and the teacher amazing.

The teacher spoke English and I asked about other classes as once per week is not enough for me to get my fix. She recommended hiring a private teacher if I could not find other classes close enough for me to get to. So that’s what I did, I got a private class at my home once per week and I also convinced other teachers at my school to all chip together and hire a teacher to deliver yoga once per week at the school for the teachers.

So there you have it, I’m getting the three weekly yoga classes I crave. I’m feeling back to my healthy self again and loving life in Bangkok. Just feel with the fast paced life in Bangkok that yoga is something everyone could do with here and when you look for studios they are all over the city. So Bangkok seems to have the same love of Yoga as me.
